One PBJ of this squadron took off at 1257 to conduct reconnaissance on Ponape and Mokil Islands.  Rain squalls were encountered between Ponape and Mokil.  Reconnaissance of Mokil Island from 1645 to 1700 gave negative results and the pilot returned to Ponape and continued reconnaissance there from 1730 to 1745.  at 1735 a 35' tug boat with 50' barge attached was sighted in the entrance to Matalanim Harbor traveling east toward the dock extending from Nanne Island.  Four strafing runs were made in which 12 rounds of 75mm and 900 rounds of 50 cal. were expended.  No 75mm were seen to hit the target, but approximately 300 rounds of 50 cal. were in the target area and inflicted slight damage.  Medium anti-aircraft fire was observed on the center of Nanne Island. Runs were made on the target on a heading of 160 at altitude of 2,000' to 200'.
