One PBJ of this squadron took off at 0505 to conduct reconnaissance of Ponape Island and in addition locate and attack the tug boat on which a run was made the previous day off Mantapeiti Island.  Upon reaching the the area, the weather was hazy but cleared later.  Cloud coverage over Ponape was 3/10 to 4/10, cloud base at 3000' thin and scattered.  The tug boat was not observed anywhere in the area.  In order to stay on station the required length of time it was necessary to lose the bomb weight, so at 0900 a run was made on a 2000' dock extending north from the northeast tip or Nanue Island, and on a building at the base of the dock on Nanue Island.  The run was made on a heading of 173 at 250 knots.  Four (4) 500# G.P. were dropped in train from 800' on the dock.  One hit was seen to destroy a portion of the dock.  75mm and .50 calibre were directed at a small building at the base of the dock but not hits were observed.  Visibility over the target was excellent.
