EACH PLANE MADE A RUN FROM 3500-4000 YDS. ON THE INSTALLATION ON THE LAGOON SIDE OF TAROA ISLAND FIRING A TOTAL OF 5 75MM. SHELLS WHICH WERE SEEN TO HIT ON THE ISLAND.  ONE PLANE MADE A RUN ON THE RADIO STATION ON PIGEEYATTO ISLAND EXPENDING 5 RNDS. OF 5 75MM. SHELLS.  BOTH RUNS WERE MADE AT AN ALTITUDE OF APPROXIMATELY 2,000' PRIMARILY FOR HARASSING EFFECT.  DARKNESS PREVENTED ACCURATE ASSESSMENT OF DAMAGE.

THE FIRST PLANE ARRIVED OVER THE TARGET AT APPROXIMATELY 1845 AND TOOK UP A CIRCLING PATROL OF THE ATOLL.  NO ACTIVITY OR SUSPICIOUS OBJECTS WERE OBSERVED.  AT AUR, THE ADJOINING ATOLL, SEVERAL ELECTRIC LIGHTS WERE OBSERVED DURING THE EARLY PART OF THE NIGHT PROBABLY INDICATING A NATIVE VILLAGE OF SOME IMPORTANCE.  TEN ROUNDS OF 75mm AMMUNITION WERE EXPENDED ON TAROA AND PIGEEYATTO ATOLLS DURING THE NIGHT WITH UNOBSERVED RESULTS.  THE PATROL CONTINUED DURING THE REMAINDER OF THE NIGHT DISCOVERING NO ACTIVITY OR SUSPICIOUS OBJECTS.  THE SECOND PLANE LANDED AT 0705.
